Costs of Data Roaming

Smartphones are great tools for keeping in touch on the move. Recently, one of our customers got a shock when using their Smartphone in the UK. After checking that data roaming was included within the Vodafone Passport option before leaving Ireland, by just accessing email and web pages, the account was credited with €2,000 of roaming data charges. The problem appears to be that Vodafone did not advise the internet access point required changing on the phone before travelling to use the contracted bundled data within the Perfect Choice Access Plan. Vodafone Ireland only allow access to the slower Vodafone Live service whilst aboard, fine for email and basic web use but unsuitable for VoIP and internet video. Before you or your employees travel outside the country with your Smartphone, it is best to ensure you contact the network operator and ensure you have all the correct settings for the country you are visiting.
